$5M Government funding for Apartments for Life

The New South Wales Government has announced $5 million funding for the Benevolent Society's aged care housing project Apartments for Life.

The project has been developed with the aim of keeping older people living in their local communities longer and 40% of the apartments have been allocated as affordable housing.

SA Home and Community Care program receives $12M boost

Older South Australians who live in their own homes will benefit from a $12 million boost to aged care services through the Home and Community Care (HACC) program.

Health Department: One Stop Shops will be late

The single-entry point ‘one-stop shops' for aged care services promised by the Government in April last year will not be up and running in time to meet the deadline.

Access Economics-Acute shortage of aged care beds by 2050

A new report has revealed that Australia faces a shortage of 280,000 aged-care places by 2050, under the current system.The report was carried out by Access Economics and commissioned by Alzheimer's Australia.

One of the driving factors behind the predicted shortage is the growing numbers of people living with dementia and current estimates are that there will be 1 million Australians diagnosed with dementia by 2050.

The report breaks the figures down on a state-by-state basis with NSW predicted to experience an acute shortage of over 95,000 beds, followed by Victoria with 72,000 and Queensland with a deficit of over 50,000.

The deficits, state by state are as follows:ACT: 3,200, NSW: 95,200, NT: 1,600, Qld: 50,300, SA: 25,400, Tas: 7,300, Vic: 72,000, WA: 24,100
